How can I update data from initiator to server’s physical storage device such as disk, partition?
Please first let us explain for some concepts regarding with your questions:
1. As the Windows provide a cache mechanism so when you update the content by third party software (such as iStorage Server and other iSCSI software), the file system will not be updated immediately, so you have to restart server or remount volume, for remounting volume, please refer to:
http://www.kernsafe.com/tech-articles/update-data-files-from-initiators-to-target.aspx2. When partition or physical disk is mounted to a letter, the Server OS will write a small amount of data onto it. If then it is exported as an ISCSI and initiator will also write some data onto it - it will cause data corruption. To use this solution, you need to choose “Hold and Update Support” or “Persistent Exclusive Access” options.
3. The data written from client side will be saved to target hard disk. The data will first be transferred to memory of client machine (Delayed Write) and then written to the target, if there will be a power lost upon completion, data written to the target will be lost. If you will perform a normal shutdown, data loss will not occur.
