HA Health Monitoring

Post by bobcat7677 » Fri May 04, 2012 5:35 am

I have been running HA for some time now and just upgraded to 2.6. In the process, I verified an HA volume and found differences and had to do an manual sync. The screen says to do this while no clients are connected so my volumes were down for an extended period while the sync did it's thing. This of course ranges from stressful to outright unacceptable for most people running HA. The whole point is to keep things running ALL THE TIME. So why would it have gotten out of sync? What does this mean for the health of my volumes? Why is it not supported to Verify/Sync while the HA volume is being used?

It is synchronizing problem, because Verify / Synchronize between two nodes with initiators connected may get wrong result, while iStorage Server verify/synchronize a block, the block may be written by initiators and haven’t synchronized to another node yet, then for verify, you will get "differences found" issue, for synchronize, you have data corruption risk.
We can add some mechanism to support online verification and synchronization in the following versions.

Thanks Olivia- Support for Online Verification/Sync would be very desirable to me. I can imagine doing an online sync/verify could impact performance since it would have to keep track of all the changes while it's syncing. So maybe two options would be in order (high speed ones that warn you to have your initiators disconnected and "Online" ones that warn you that they may take a long time and impact performance? Thanks again. -RobertB

I have conformed with our engineer, synchronizing will effect performance.
Your advice is very good, we really appreciate, we will consider and search for some solution to archive it.
