DriverInstall.exe fails on french Win 7 home Premium

Post by maestrozfr » Wed Oct 19, 2011 7:22 am

Hi,
I waited a long time for the DVD-RW feature in TotalMounter that version 1.5 brings in.
Unfortunately, I can't install it properly on my Win 7 box. I use a french version of win 7 home premium.
During install, I have a message stating 'DriverInstall.exe stopped working and will be closed', when I discard this message installation goes on.
The driver seems to be installed OK but when I try to mount a Virtual CD/DVD-RW I have this message in TotalMounter main screen 'can not mount this image ! c000003b'

Below, the error details I get from Windows when DriverInstall fails (sorry it's in french)

I don't know if this pb has been encountered before or if it's due to the french flavour of windows or anything

Did you try to install TotalMounter into non-english directory?
And did you try to mount image from non-english directory?

No, I use default installation directory given by installer
The iso image I tried to mount is f:\temp.iso
No non english characters involved.
I'm not even sure that it's the french flavour of Windows that is the source of the problem.
I installed and uninstalled a version of TotalMounter at least a year ago, may be the pb is there.
I don't know, not much data to work on
Windows is dumb and TotalMounter gives me error c000003b when I try to mount an image, very talkative !

c000003b means file name or directory is unrecognizable, does drive F is local hard drive?
TM doesn’t support network drive at this time.

Yes F is local hard drive
I searched a little deeper after uninstallation, there's a lot of garbage left behind in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_KSBUS
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\SCSI\CdRom&Ven_KernSafe&Prod_DVD-RAM_MOUNTER&Rev_1.65
etc.
I'm not sure it might cause trouble, but the uninstaller is not clean !
