HA Issue cannot see only one volume mirrored

Post by jirm » Wed Aug 31, 2011 2:47 pm

Hi.

Im starting trying your software iStorage Server, but cannot setup properly in HA mode.

I setup only two nodes Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise for iStorage Server V2.40, and setup the properly config for build target and HA mode (following your doc istorage server high avaibality windows 2008 .... from August 20, 2011) but without success.

The issue is when my client pc (Windows 7 Ultimate) try have acces the volume presented from iStorage Servers because the client pc see two diferent volumes and not only one (mirrored), and of course the failover can be done.
The iscsi intiator is setup and sees two volumes (i dont nknow if this is normal) and then when i try to setup the volume in devices Administration i see too two diferent volumes and of course if i setup one i only can have access whitout failover because i can only have access them while the istorage server for this target is up and if i shut down this server the volume comes down.

What im doing wrong ?

Thanks.
sorry about my bad english...im spanish

jirm,

I'm sorry to inform you but Windows 7 don't officially support MPIO therefore as client you would need to use Windows Server 2008 with MPIO feature installed.

You may read more about it here:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... e111ae1a83

If you would like to know how to install and setup MPIO on Windows Server 2008, please refer to this white paper:

Ok Matt,

Now i understand whats my "hugue" mistake because of course we need first to connect trougth iscsi initiator properly setup mipio software to work, but then i sugest some few notes about MPIO needed in the nice docs from KernSafe about how to setup High Avaiavility on Windows 2008.

I think (i supposse MS not suported yet) we can make work mpio on windows 7 (pro), because all the storage subsystem is the same on windows 2008 and windows 7, but we need do some install importing mpio files from windows 2008 (install few mui packages) to our windows 7 to make work mpioclp.exe on it.

In all case, so many thanks for your help Matt!
