Hello,
I made a physical drive as a target, and was wondering what the option "Persistent exclusive access on this device" really does?

"it will denied access from server itself", but if I try to write on the drive from the computer where it is, it let me.

The option has two functions:
1, Lock all volumes on the disk to prevent applications on the server to access the disk.
2, Allow initiator to write any sectores (After Vista, there is a restriction which will denie some write requrest if not locked.

How did you write to the physical disk, by some tools?

Is there any advantage to using a disk as a target as opposed to a disk .img file? Looking at creating a 10 TB target and wanting to know the best choice.

In the current version of our product, there is almost no difference in performance between hard disk and standard image disk, we suggest using image disk because it has the following advantage:
1. Easy to be moved to other server or storage.
2. Easy to be backup and protected (encryption, compressing, snapshot etc.)
3. No easy to be corrupted, as a disk need to be locked (exclusive access) otherwise it can be used by any applications, it has more risk to got corrupted.
